A few facts about Peanut Butter!
Peanut Butter Inventor?
Here’s a little peanut butter history for you: While many of us Southerners have grown up believing that George Washington Carver invented Peanut Butter, the truth is a little more complicated than that. It’s true that he developed over 300 uses for the peanut, the actual invention of peanut butter preceded him.
The Aztecs and Incas are believed to have developed a peanut paste around 950 B.C. Carver’s work — along with that of peanut butter innovators Edson, Kellogg and Straub—helped establish peanut butter as the nutritious staple ingredient found in 94 percent of American households today.
Is Peanut Butter Good for You?
Good news, if you’re wondering if peanut butter is healthy, the truth is: you get a lot of nutrition in a spoonful of peanut butter. Nuts and nut butters are a great source of protein, fiber, vitamins, minerals, and phytochemicals. The FDA-approved health claim from 2003 states that scientific evidence suggests that eating peanuts and most tree-nuts (1.5 ounces per day of most nuts) may reduce the risk of heart disease.
According to research, eating nuts can have a positive effect on other diseases as well. Peanuts, for example, contain phytochemical resveratrol and a recent German study linked resveratrol’s cancer-preventing effects in colorectal cells.
BUT, most commercial peanut butters are loaded with sugar, vegetable oils and trans fat. With those commercial brands, the health scale tips making their peanut butter an unhealthy choice.

If you’re looking for healthy peanut butter, you’ve come to the right place.
Is Peanut Butter Good for Dogs?
A lot of people ask this question. Commercial peanut butters can be deadly to your dog. And here’s your one-word answer… Xylitol! Xylitol is an all-natural sugar substitute, and is extremely poisonous to our canine companions. So, make sure that the peanut butter you buy is Xylitol-FREE.
Aside from the Xylitol problem, natural peanut butter is a great for dogs. It’s a good source of protein, B and E vitamins, and healthy monounsaturated fats, according to the AKC.
Mackeys Ferry all-natural Gourmet Peanut Butter does NOT contain Xylitol… and never will. If you’re looking for a peanut butter that is safe for your dog, our peanut butter is made without Xylitol.
